2002 Events

These were some of the events in late 2002 preserved here for archival purposes:

1. SAT SEPT 28 1:00pm THE HORSE SHELTER - Sandra Harding, EQUINE SPORTS MASSAGE Therapist will demonstrate on the rescue horses at Jan Bandler's beautiful facility. The freewill donation will go to The Shelter. Sandra says that "any change in attitude, behavior or performance is usually related to pain." This will be instructive as well as fun.

DIRECTIONS: Turquoise Trail/Hwy 14, go 5 miles S. of the Lone Butte Store to 55A. Turn East. Follow dirt road 2 miles, go under train trestle, then at 4 miles see a grey stucco house on Left, then a fork, go Rt on Old Cash Ranch Road. See Horse Shelter sign and enter gate. If you wish to carpool or caravan, meet at the entrance to #55A at Highway 14 no later than 12:15.

2. WED OCT 30 7:00pm WILD OATS COMMUNITY ROOM - Dr. Audrey Sill, DVM presents on TRADITIONAL CHINESE MEDICINE FOR THE HORSE. More on that later.

3. Tack swap and pot luck ??? How about it for the last meeting of the year(Nov 27th)?

BULLETIN BOARD:

We had yet another information-packed presentation last month. Dr. Susan Bright DC presented on CUSHINGS SYNDROME, treatment and management options. From her on-going experience with her Morgan mare, Caroline, and her extensive research, she shared with her usual dry humor, a chronological saga of symptoms (starting with Caroline's reaction to a vaccination, to her present relatively stable condition). Thank you so much, Susan! Hand-outs will be available on Sat Sept 28 at the Equitouch clinic.

Jan Bandler - thank you for your well-worded comment, in the New Mexican today, on PREMARIN MARES and their horrific existence. Pregnant mares urine is the largest selling prescription drug to date. That is a disgraceful and unconscionable fact in light of the availability of far more human- bio-compatible substances for the the pre, mid and post menopausal woman. We all can be a voice for the elimination of this lucrative and harmful (both to horses and women) industry.

Bonnie McGhee is special events coordinator (creator) for EQUIFEST Sept 29. Dont miss it.

The idea of an entire symposium on the subject of VACCINATION (possibly including the human experience) is very timely. There much misinformation and many coercive pressures around that subject. We need clear, grounded and well-presented research and experience on vaccination. If this resonates with any of you and you wish to be a part of it, let me know.

Finally, I will step back for a time and concentrate on, what else - earning a living! My husband and I are undertaking another restaurant - very exciting but very intense. However, let me assure you that the above scheduled events are in place and "set to go" up to the end of 2002. And I will update the website whenever I can.

Love to you and yours,
Sheila Nixon (505 438-6205) (sheila@horsesnaturally.com)

PLEASE NOTE: - HORSES, NATURALLY! is growing and evolving. The information being shared so freely by the various presenters is of a very high caliber and in many cases represents a segment of, or distillation of their life work and certainly their passion. Remember, however, HORSES, NATURALLY! does not necessarily endorse each and every opinion expressed by our guest speakers. We present topics in the spirit of proliferating information so that YOU MAY MAKE INFORMED CHOICES in the care of your horse. The hunger for this knowledge is growing as horse-owners are empowering themselves to make sensible, informed, appropriate and natural choices in the stewardship of these fine beings.
